Gustave MIKLOS (1888-1967) - Lot 83
Gustave MIKLOS (1888-1967) Leads and first proof approved for the commemorative plaques for the inauguration of the Port-Jerome refinery, 1933 Two leads and two copper faces Leads signed or monogrammed 10.5 x 6.3 cm Bibliography - Danuta Cichocka, Gustave Miklos, Catalogues raisonnés, Paris, 2014, n°S100, p. 87. Note: This plate was commissioned by Miklos' patron Jacques André, heir to the Standard Franco-Américaine de raffinage created by his father Alexandre ANDRE. In 1933, the oil company that would become Esso SAF had just completed construction of a state-of-the-art refinery in Port-Jérôme (Normandy). To mark the inauguration of the site, Miklos' commemorative plaques, produced by the Monnaie de Paris, were presented with the inscription: "Standard Franco-américaine de raffinage inauguration de la raffinerie de port Jérome, 1933-1934". The names of each recipient were engraved on each of the plaques. The Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris has a copy of this engraved plaque, as well as Jacques André's gold signet ring designed by Miklos, on display in the Galerie des Bijoux.
