VILLARD WEILL - Lot 47
VILLARD WEILL One-storey painted wooden dollhouse. With accessories and mignonettes. Late 19th century H : 63 W : 49 D : 27 cm (as is) NOTA : The Villard et Weill toy factory has been a famous manufacturer of wooden toys since its creation in 1834. According to estimates, the company produced over 900 items in 1914, and another 250 models in the 1954 catalog. Destined for shipment throughout France, most department stores such as "Le Printemps, la Samaritaine" distributed Villard et Weill collections. In its early days, the factory employed 200 workers. By the '30s, the factory had grown to almost 600 employees and an area of around 35,000 m². Faced with this rapid expansion, the company decided to set up its own sawmill on Rue St Lambert in 1904. A few years later, in 1913, Villard et Weill built a new wooden toy factory on rue Gaillardot. Unfortunately, the Second World War was one of the most difficult economic periods. This period effectively favored the entry of plastic toys on the market. This tough competition took its toll on the company, which closed its doors for good in 1968.
