RARE silver baluster EGGER, the round base with acanthus lea - Lot 24
RARE silver baluster EGGER, the round base with acanthus leaf frieze, the body richly chased with foliage alternating with medallions decorated with Amours, couples of doves and Coeurs de Marie. The median belt is decorated with a garland of flowers on an amati background, the fluted handle ends in a dog bust, the spout with a horse's head, and the lid with a flower bud. Master Goldsmith: Antoine BOULLIER, received master in 1775. Paris 1788 Louis XVI period Weight : 1446 g. H : 33 cm (hinge to be refastened, small shock inside the lid, small lack) Provenance: sold at Drouot, March 21, 1977 Nota : Winner of the Grand Prix de l'école gratuite de dessin in 1774, Antoine Boullier was awarded the title of Master on December 16, 1775, with the endorsement of the famous Edme-Pierre Balzac. He produced a large number of pieces for aristocratic families and sovereigns, both in France and Europe, and as far afield as America. He became ordinary goldsmith to the Duc d'ORLÉANS and received orders from the Marquis de MARIGNY, before delivering various pieces for Empress Catherine II of Russia in 1781. The Revolution slowed his activity to the point where he retired as a farmer. He took up his scissors again under the First Empire, participating in the Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie in 1806, and in 1810, alongside Martin-Guillaume BIENNAIS, in the creation of Emperor NAPOLÉON I's tea service, creating the famous tea fountain. His career slowed down with the return of the Bourbon family, and seems to have ended in 1818.
