1958 MERCEDES-BENZ 180 D - Lot 201
1958 MERCEDES-BENZ 180 D - Chassis number 1201108503115 - Sold by designation - Without reserve - French registration 200/300 € It's a time of smoking, noisy and dusty Perkins and Peugeot-Indenors. The Diesel of those years was not very popular (the auto-Journal even predicted its disappearance by 1970), and the extremely low price of its fuel made the price per kilometer driven attractive. The performance of this 1,770 with an overhead camshaft of 40 then 43 (180 D) puts it on a par with a 1,000 with 1,200 petrol. Its reliability is legendary (150,000 to 200,000 without intervention on the moving crew). To start the engine, turn the ignition switch to the right to its first detent, the spark plugs heat up...after 30 seconds or so, a warning light lights up red, turn another detent to the right and the engine snorts to life, accompanied by those metallic resonances characteristic of the first Diesels. As the engine warms up, idling becomes less chaotic, less noisy: this 180 D is indeed one of the first perfectly tuned Diesels, with a centrifugal advance of the injection point combining fuel economy (10%) and power, and a total absence of smell. Our example can be used as a spare parts stock or as a donor for an ongoing project. - Chassis number 1201108503115 - French registration - Sold by designation - Without reserve These were the days of smoking, noisy and dusty Perkins and Peugeot-Indenors.
