The engine is a brand-new three-cylinder two-stroke,
This model came into its own at the 1969 Bol d'Or with six production models entered, one of which led the race ahead of the larger-displacement factory Honda.
Another won its class (Jean-Claude Guénard and Marcel Morel) and finished second overall.
Subsequently, the racing version, the 500 H1R, enjoyed numerous successes.
In 1972, the H1B adopted the H2's 296 mm front forks and disc brakes.
The orange version was produced in just over 1,000 units.
