1938 PEUGEOT - Lot 14
1938 PEUGEOT
Type 53 TM Scooter
Serial number: 381500
100 cm3
RARE 1938 model !
Collector's grey card
2 000 / 4 000 €
At the 1938 Motor Show, Peugeot presented its first three-wheeler, the TM 53, derived from the P53. Powered by a 98 cm3 single-cylinder engine, it was made famous by the Paris-Moscow tour completed by globe-trotter Robert Sexé. While the TM's rear end resembles that of the solo moped, it has a double-barrel frame and, above all, a semi-elliptical spring front suspension reminiscent of the 202's front axle. The little TM can carry a load of 100 kg and travel at 45 km/h.
In 1945, the Peugeot three-wheeler was given the name 54 TN, in line with the evolution of the moped. In 1949, Peugeot unveiled the 125 cm3 55 TN, which would evolve slowly over the years. The cooling fins change orientation, and the cooling turbine is no longer suction-driven, but blower-driven, with an air intake on the left-hand side, above the magnetic steering wheel.
The model presented here is an absolute rarity!
It's a rare 1938 model. The wheels are identical front and rear, and that's the big difference. The chassis is raised compared to later models, the cast-iron cylinder has 2 small inspection hatches on the rear of the cylinder, cooling is by suction and the small brake pedal is on the right, with the wing acting as a sheath stop. The handlebars are flat and squarely curved at the ends. According to l'Aventure Peugeot, around 20 examples of this type were made during this period. We present this machine, restored a few years ago.
We recommend that future purchasers carry out the usual restarts required to keep these machines in the collector's museum.
We recommend that future purchasers carry out the customary restarts required by the immobilization of these machines in the collector's museum.
