1931 MAGNAT DEBON - Lot 8
1931 MAGNAT DEBON
Type FLG
Serial number: 164088
250 cm3
Collector's registration
1 500 / 2 500 €
Founders Joseph Magnat and Louis Debon joined forces in the 1890s to set up a cycle factory in their native Grenoble. Adopting a De Dion engine, the firm produced its first motorcycle in 1902. By 1905, when the first mass-produced types were marketed, Magnat-Debon was manufacturing its own engines. Its motorcycles featured many innovations, such as telescopic front suspension and overhead valves. Magnat-Debon flourished in the years leading up to the Great War. But the founders both died in 1918, and in the early 1920s Magnat-Debon was sold to industrialist Alfred Turpillot, who merged the brand with Terrot, which he had also just acquired. Since 1925, the Magnat-Debon brand has been merged with the Dijon-based firm, offering models identical in every detail to those offered by Terrot. The F model is a 247 cm3 single-cylinder 2-stroke motorcycle (thus escaping the 3 CV tax). The FLG (LéGère), with light frame, 130 brakes, 125/140 mudguards and smaller 25x3 tires, was produced in 1931. This machine took part in the May 8, 1945 parade to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the liberation of France.
We recommend that future purchasers carry out the customary restarts due to the immobilization of these machines in the collector's museum.
