Hunting - LISLE de MONCEL: Méthodes et projets... - Lot 32 - Osenat
Hunting - LISLE de MONCEL: Méthodes et projets pour parvenir à la destruction des loups dans le royaume. Imprimerie Royale, 1768. In-12 contemporary speckled basane, spine decorated, marbled edges (edges a little disjointed). First edition, complete with its large fold-out table at the end of the volume, listing the various catches made between 1765 and 1767, the various hunters who worked in those years, and the legal forms to be provided in the event of the capture or killing of a wolf. Nicolas de Lisle de Moncel, former cavalry captain and Chevalier de l'Ordre du Saint-Esprit, was in charge of "tests relating to the destruction of wolves on the border of the Trois-Évêchés" (Metz, Toul and Verdun). His work contains a description of the breeds of bloodhounds useful for hunting wolves, an opinion on rabies, how to teach servants and peasants to "shoot at wood", instructions for the use of military troops during wolf hunts in peacetime, how to select gunpowder, etc. (Thiébaud, 602).
