BONAPARTE (Napoleon-Louis). - Lot 5
BONAPARTE (Napoleon-Louis). Autograph letter signed to Joseph Bonaparte. Rome, December 11, 1821. One p. 1/4 in-folio, mourning border; trace of tab on verso margin. "My dear uncle, it has been a long time since I wished to express to you in person the wishes I never cease to form for your happiness; but this felicity has always been denied me... I hope, my dear uncle, that you will receive with kindness the homage of my feelings, and that you will not believe that it is through negligence that I write to you so little; on the contrary, be persuaded that if I wrote to you every time I thought of you, you would constantly receive my letters. Grandmother is quite well [Letizia Bonaparte], my Aunt Pauline [Bonaparte] is sometimes fairly well, sometimes badly, sometimes well. The rest of the family is doing well. Papa has asked me to tell you many things. If Charlotte has arrived near you [Joseph Bonaparte's daughter], I join Papa in asking you to wish her a happy new year..." RARE LETTER FROM THE PRINCE WHO DIED AGED 26. Son of Louis Bonaparte, and therefore nephew of Napoleon I and elder brother of the future Napoleon III, Napoleon-Louis Bonaparte (1804-1831) shared adventures with the latter in Italian revolutionary movements, particularly in the Romagna region.
