Moïse KISLING (1891-1953) - Lot 204
Moïse KISLING (1891-1953) Sanary landscape, 1947 Oil on canvas Signed lower left, dated and located "Sanary" lower right 33 x 41 cm To be included in "Volume IV and Addenda to Volumes I, II and III" of the Catalogue Raisonné of Moïse Kisling's work currently being prepared by Marc Ottavi. Provenance : Suzanne and Raymond Fischof, Paris (acquired from the artist) After the war, on his return from the United States and unable to quickly recover his apartment on rue Joseph Bara, which had been looted and ransacked in 1940, Kisling decided to leave Paris temporarily and return to the Provencal atmosphere of his villa "La Baie", in Sanary, where he enjoyed the lush, colorful countryside. "Painting is not drawing. It must sing. Didn't Baudelaire say that a colorist is an epic poet? It's a real instinct that drives a colorist to prefer a particular color - red, green and yellow, for example." - Moïse Kisling, L'Art Vivant, 1925 Expert : Marc OTTAVI
