ENCOIGNURE in veneered wood and rosewood marquetry with amar - Lot 165
ENCOIGNURE in veneered wood and rosewood marquetry with amaranth fillet frames, opening with two front leaves. Grey marble top. Stamped twice by Jean-Baptiste GALET (Maître ébéniste in May 1754). Louis XV period H: 90 W: 54 D: 54 cm (lifts and small chips) Nota : Jean-Baptiste Galet (received the title of master cabinetmaker in May 1754) was one of the most important Parisian furniture craftsmen of the second third of the 18th century. At first, his workshop was located on rue Sainte-Marguerite, but later moved to rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, where he opened a store selling furniture, a second activity from which he gained great notoriety among connoisseurs of the time. His career ended in 1780, and he died a few years later in 1784. Today, a triangular game table bearing his stamp is part of the Rothschild Collection at Waddesdon Manor (published in G. de Bellaigue, The James A. de Rothschild Collection at Waddesdon Manor, Fribou, France).
