EXTREMELY RARE DAGGER BELONGING TO ROUSTAM - Lot 32
EXTREMELY RARE DAGGER BELONGING TO ROUSTAM 1ST MAMELOUK OF THE EMPEROR. Mounted in vermeil. Strong handle in marbled sanguine agate. Chased silver rivet knob adorned with an eight-petal flower. Gold-plated, cut-out and engraved ring, resting on a small oval hilt. Slightly curved, double-edged blade (slightly blunt), engraved on one side with the First Empire eagle on tusks and marked "1er mameluk de Sa Majesté"; on the other side, engraved with a rooster holding a snake in its talons; above, "Poignard de Mr Roustam" and "P. Arnaud ex S. Directeur de l'École de Compiègne". Single-ring, repoussé-decorated vermeil scabbard, entirely decorated with florets, foliage and flowering lozenges. Swan hallmark on hilt. Goldsmith's hallmark "F.A.C." in a diamond with column and hallmark (illegible). B.E. (small dents from use towards the bottom of the scabbard). Overall length: 385 mm.
