VERY RARE MAMELUK SENIOR OFFICER'S PISTOL. - Lot 28
VERY RARE MAMELUK SENIOR OFFICER'S PISTOL. Round barrel with flats on top and thunderbolt, blued, stamped with the bar "Boutet", "NB", "CA", "PB", decorated in gold with a muzzle frieze and two thunderbolts. Flat-bodied turntable engraved "Mre Imple de Versailles" and hallmarked "DX", with round-bodied swan-neck hammer. Round brass basin with sparkle guard. Plain, cut and stamped silver fittings. Superb rounded oval pommel decorated in the round with a turban topped by a crescent and three feathers, framed by two crescents on a sand-blasted background. Long-barreled walnut stock, finely checkered in part, stamped "5", "DX" on the lock side and "DX" on the back. Fanon ramrod with silver tip and brass fuse. CA; Chapelle, inspector from 1806 to 1809. PB: Bouny Pierre, cannon controller from An IX to 1806. DX: Deschaseaux, platinum controller from 1806. Silver hallmarks, 1798-1809, title hallmark cock 2 department, large guarantee hallmark old man's head, maker's hallmark "NB" in a rhombus (Nicolas Boutet, artistic director of the Manufacture de Versailles). Barrel length: 27 cm. Overall length: 42 cm. Cal: 15 mm. B.E. First Empire period, in original (faded) blue. N.B.: according to the hallmarks, this pistol was made in 1806.
