ORIENTAL MAMLUK CARTRIDGE BELT. - Lot 25
ORIENTAL MAMLUK CARTRIDGE BELT. In red morocco covered with red velvet and adorned with gold and silver embroidered trimmings. It carries two cartridge belts in natural leather and red velvet, embroidered en suite, embellished with a double cord with three tassels. Closing with two engraved and gilded buckles with one barb each. Length: 1.05 m. Cartridge belt: 12.5 x 13 cm. A.B.E. (service wear, braid missing in places and four round pieces of leather adorning the cartridge belt flaps). Late 18th century, early 19th century. Provenance : - Jean Louis Noisiez Collection. Bibliography : This belt is similar to the pair of Imperial Guard Mameluke officer's cast-iron belts on display at the Musée de l'Armée in Paris and reproduced in the book "Napoléon et ses soldats", p.53.
