FINE LITTLE FLINTLOCK HUNTING RIFLE. Round barrel with remainder of bluing, attractive silver sights, decorated with gold on the muzzle and flat on the top, signed in gold "Cazes à Paris" and decorated on the thunderbolt sides with a large trophy of arms and hallmark. Breech tail finely engraved with foliage. Lock signed "Cazes à Paris" and round-bodied swan-neck hammer. Engraved upper jaw and battery. Round, oval, spark-guard basin. Chased and engraved silver fittings. Urn-shaped trigger guard front engraved with foliage. Stamped on the trigger guard tail "n°6". Counterplate decorated with shells and foliage. Bedplate decorated with engravings in suite. Fine pistol grip long stock in selected marbled walnut, with green morocco cheekpiece, edged with silver studded braid. Silver thumbpiece monogrammed "E.N". B.E. First Empire period. JEAN CAZES: King's harquebusier in Paris, seen on deeds of 1784 and An II. History: This rifle may have belonged to the princely hunting party of Eugène Napoléon (E.N), son of Josephine and Alexandre de Beauharnais. Eugène Napoléon was adopted by Emperor Napoléon I on his marriage to Josephine.
