WAR CORRESPONDENT IN SOUTH AFRICA FOR LE FIGARO, journalist Paul Deléage chronicles his months of reporting for the British Army in South Africa. HE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET THE IMPERIAL PRINCE, AND WAS PRESENT AT THE TIME OF THE DISCOVERY OF THE PRINCE'S BODY. Provenance : Empress Eugénie (ex-libris stamps with her crowned cipher on the faux-title and title), then Jean-Claude Lachnitt (vignette and ex-libris stamp). - PAPILLAUD (Adrien). Les Crimes maçonniques. La Mort du Prince impérial. Paris, Albert Savine, 1891. In-18, contemporary half-percaline bradel; title piece nicked. First edition. Preface by Baron Tristan Lambert, a close friend of the Imperial Prince. Portrait-frontispiece lithographed by painter Marthe Boyer-Breton. A pamphlet recounting the last moments of the Imperial Prince, with the aim of proving that Captain Carey deliberately exposed him to danger and abandoned him, and that in so doing he was fulfilling the aims of a Masonic plot organized to suppress a prince with a potentially promising future, and who was notoriously hostile to Freemasonry. Provenance: Empress Eugénie (ex-libris stamp on title), then Jean-Claude Lachnitt (ex-libris stamp).
