CHAMBORD (HENRI DE BOURBON, COMTE DE). - Lot 23
CHAMBORD (HENRI DE BOURBON, COMTE DE). Autograph letter signed "Henri" to Emmanuel de Cossé, comte de Brissac. Prague, April 19, 1854. One p. 1/2 in-8. "I was sure in advance, my dear Brissac, that you would share in our deep sorrow. The man who has just been so cruelly struck down had only words of forgiveness for his murderer, and never ceased to be admirable to the last breath for his faith, piety, courage and Christian resignation. this is our only consolation in this sad and unforeseen catastrophe [the sister of the Count of Chambord, Louis de Bourbon, had just lost her husband, LE DUC CHARLES III DE BOURBON-PARME, VICTIME D'UN ATTENTAT POLITIQUE le 27 mars 1854]. We also mourn from the bottom of our souls the good Duchesse de Lévis [Marie-Catherine Amanda d'Aubusson]. What a loss for her poor husband and for us! But she has gone to receive in the bosom of God the reward of her eminent virtues and holy works, and she will contribute by her ardent prayers to hasten the better days we await..." Emmanuel de Cossé-Brissac (1793-1870) had also been honorary knight to the Duchess of Berry, mother of the Count of Chambord.
