1959 ROLLS ROYCE SILVER CLOUD II CABRIOLET Series:... - Lot 58 - Osenat
1959 ROLLS ROYCE SILVER CLOUD II CABRIOLET Series: LSPA116 French registration - Convertible conversion carried out by the ODS workshops in 2022 - Purchased new by the Bouglione family - Ex Yves Saint Laurent - Exceptional restoration Elegant, flowing lines make the Silver Cloud the most beautiful of all factory-bodied Rolls-Royces. Despite its imposing proportions, there's nothing heavy about it. Only majesty and distinction. The Silver Cloud succeeded the Silver Dawn in 1955. It was still built on a separate chassis, an archaic technique that allowed customers who so wished to have the bodywork done by a major firm such as James Young, Hooper or Mulliner. But the vast majority of Silver Clouds will feature factory bodywork. Right from the start, HJ Mulliner offered a drophead coupe body, the inspiration for our example. In 1959, its first evolution appeared, known as the Silver Cloud II, with an all-new power unit. The Silver Cloud II marked Rolls-Royce's transition to a 6.3-liter V8 equipped with two SU HD8 carburetors, providing "sufficient" but still smooth power. Our example was delivered on 05/11/1959 by the Franco-British company to the Bouglione family, who kept it for a few years before selling it to Yves Saint Laurent, who kept it until the early 1980s, when it changed hands twice before our collector acquired it in 2009. At the time, the car had not been driven for many years, and the bodywork needed to be redone. In 2018, he approached the ODS body shop to carry out a major project: the creation of a Drophead Coupe based on his sedan. 5 years of work and numerous invoices will be needed to finalize the conversion. In addition to the creation of a new body, the entire car was completely restored. Our test drives revealed a car that was both pleasant and easy to drive. This is a great opportunity for any Rolls Royce enthusiast looking for a Silver Cloud convertible with a fine history.
