1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT 1600 Italian registration Series:... - Lot 71 - Osenat
1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT 1600 Italian registration Series: AR116040014777 In 1909, the Darracq firm sold a large part of its capital to a group of Lombard financiers. In 1910, the ALFA company was formed to continue automobile production at the Portello plant near Milan. Industrialist Nicola Romeo bought ALFA in December 1915. In February 1918, the company adopted the name Italiana Ingeniere Nicola Romeo e Cia. Cars coming out of the production workshops now bear the Alfa Romeo name. From 1911 onwards, the brand entered competition, and the 1920s saw a steady stream of sporting successes. The arrival of engineer Vittorio Jano in 1925 enabled Alfa Romeo to produce some of the best racing cars until his departure in 1938. After the Second World War, the Italian manufacturer moved away from the artisanal production that had prevailed since its beginnings, towards mass production. This change took shape with the launch of the Giulietta in 1954, followed by the Giulia in 1962. To succeed the Giulia, Alfa Romeo decided to launch the Alfetta. In the same move, the Alfa Romeo GT was replaced by the Alfetta GTV for Gran Turismo in Veloce version. This sporty coupé was produced between 1974 and 1987. The name Alfetta GTV was introduced in 1976 when the two-liter version was launched, with a power output of up to 122 hp. The specifications called for a body that could comfortably accommodate four passengers instead of the traditional 2+2, with the added bonus of a trunk with sufficient volume for travel. The aim was to compete with compact sports sedans offering similar performance and comfort levels. The new model was developed by Giorgetto Giugiaro's new Italdesign company, which had already played a major role in the creation of the Giulia GT, when he worked with the Italian coachbuilder Bertone. The car we are offering for sale is an Alfetta GT 1600, which was sold new in Italy and has remained there ever since. The car is in very good condition, runs very well and is very sound.
