1969 MERCEDES BENZ 280 SL - Lot 51
1969 MERCEDES BENZ 280 SL Series 11304410012642 Full restoration French registration "Pagoda" is the nickname of the Mercedes Benz SL W113 convertibles built between 1963 and 1972. It's due to the distinctive shape of its hardtop. The "Pagoda's" mission was not an easy one, since it had to replace the 190 SL and 300 SL and make them forget about each other at the same time. March 1967 saw the launch of the new 280 SL, the big sister of the 230 SL and 250 SL which had appeared in 1963 and 1966 respectively. This magnificent cabriolet will go down in automotive history as one of the masterpieces of talented French stylist Paul Bracq. Reliable and usable in everyday life even today, this range is in keeping with the image of quality and robustness that has always defined Mercedes-Benz. The model presented here was acquired by its current owner some ten years ago, when he undertook a complete restoration of the highest quality at a cost of over 60,000 euros. The engine was completely rebuilt, as were the chassis, running gear and body. It is presented in an elegant configuration combining a beautiful midnight blue hue with a havana leather interior. The interior has a beautiful patina, with the woodwork re-varnished and the chrome polished, while the seats have retained their original patina. Equipped with optional third seat, Becker radio and traditional hard top. Attractive Marchal fog lamps complete the package. The road test revealed a healthy car, with the 4-speed manual gearbox shifting smoothly and the engine running perfectly, testifying to the quality of the restoration undertaken. In exceptional condition, this car is just waiting for a new owner to take it out on the most beautiful roads in France. 1969 MERCEDES BENZ 280 SL Series 11304410012642 Full restoration French registration "Pagoda" is the nickname of the Mercedes Benz SL W113 convertibles built between 1963 and 1972.
