1971 CITROËN SM Serial number: 00SB5862 French... - Lot 49 - Osenat
1971 CITROËN SM Serial number: 00SB5862 French registration Launched in March 1970 and based on the DS platform, the SM had the misfortune to be born in a difficult period for large cars. Developed in part with Maserati, the SM was particularly ahead of its time, with a remarkable design and a hydropneumatic suspension system dear to the firm with the chevrons. Although one might think that its powertrain was derived directly from the Maserati Indy V8, with two cylinders amputated. It turns out, however, that the production SM's engine was developed from scratch. With 6 cylinders in a V-shape, the SM's engine produced 170 hp at 5500 rpm on carbureted 1970 to 1972 models. Equipped with four disc brakes with hydraulic control and assistance, Diravi power steering, directional headlamps and a CX of just 0.339, the SM had everything to succeed! Unfortunately, the oil crisis and the reliability problems encountered by the SM put an end to its career in 1975, after only 12,920 examples had been built. Our example is in fine overall condition. Originally in tropical blue, the car was repainted some twenty years ago in a different shade of blue, and the paintwork is still in fine condition. The interior has a beautiful patina. Equipped with these rare and beautiful resin rims, our example is very sound and shows no signs of perforating corrosion. The mechanics are in good working order, the road test revealed no particular problems, and the roadworthiness test is valid. 1971 CITROËN SM Serial number: 00SB5862 French registration Launched in March 1970 and based on the DS platform, the SM had the misfortune to be born in a difficult period for large cars.
