1933 DELAGE D6.11 Series: 37839 Beautiful... - Lot 31 - Osenat
1933 DELAGE D6.11 Series: 37839 Beautiful restoration Same owner for 38 years Collector's registration When the D6.11 arrived on the market at the 1932 Salon de l'auto, it carried with it all the hopes of Delage's management. The prestige brand was going through a difficult period and was seeking to attract a less exclusive clientele than that of its prestigious 8-cylinder models. Despite the return of Arthur Michelat, the company went bankrupt in 1935. Louis Delage abandoned his company, which came under the control of Delahaye, even though the D6.11 had everything to please. With its almost square 2-liter 6-cylinder engine, it was the first Delage with independent front suspension. It was a model that lived up to the brand's slogan, "Rapide et silencieuse, elle passe" ("Fast and silent, it passes"), with a body of rare chic that shone in the many concours d'élégance of the period, and a chassis that "is one of the few that you can put in front of a Rolls without shame [...]", enthused Vu magazine, on the occasion of the 1932 Salon de l'auto. The D6.11 is one of the last true Delages, with its symbolic vertical grille. Although the proportions of the chassis are not exceptional, the engineers succeeded in creating an impression of stretching, thanks to the strong contrast between the very high body line and the lowered roof, and to the rolling gears set back at either end of the ladder-type chassis. The car we're offering for sale was acquired by its current owner in 1958, who then embarked on extensive restoration work, documented and photographed over more than 20 years, during which the engine was completely rebuilt, followed by the chassis, bodywork and interior. Once the restoration was complete, the owner took particular care of the car, servicing it every year, most recently in April 2022, and taking it to many rallies and shows. Unfortunately, the owner passed away last year and the car has not been driven since. A service will therefore be required to get it back on the road. The car is in very good cosmetic condition, and the interior is almost flawless. This is a great opportunity to acquire a mythical pre-war car for a reasonable price. 1933 DELAGE D6.11 Series: 37839 Beautiful restoration Same owner for 38 years Collector's registration When the D6.11 arrived on the market at the 1932 Salon de l'Auto, it carried with it all the hopes of Delage's management.
