Launched in April 1971, the third-generation SL (R107) continued the "Sport Leicht" tradition launched in 1954 with the 300 SL. Designed primarily for the American market, this SL was the first to receive a V8 engine. A movie star (Dallas, American Gigolo, Beverly Hills Cop, ...) and a symbol of success in the 70s and 80s, the Mercedes Benz SL R107 was legendary for a whole generation.
Our example is a 450 SL in North American configuration, from 1973. It has the advantage of still having the desirable small bumpers, far more elegant than the massive American bumpers that would be imposed during the rest of the car's American career. Its engine develops 240 horsepower, a figure that will be revised downwards each year in line with pollution standards. The combination with the three-speed automatic gearbox makes this car ideal for cruising by the sea or for a night out.
In excellent condition and running perfectly, our example proves Mercedes Benz's reputation for reliability. Always well maintained, a complete overhaul was carried out in recent months, during which the shock absorbers were replaced, and the rims were shod with new Michelin XWX.
