Historically, the Porsche 356 was the first sports car manufactured and marketed by Porsche. Conceived by Ferry Porsche on the mechanical basis of the Volkswagen and designed by Erwin Komenda, it went into series production from 1948 to 1965. Technically, it is a monocoque with four independent wheels and a four-cylinder flat engine in a rear cantilever. Production of the 356 lasted over 17 years, and 78,000 examples were built. The 356 was originally available as a coupé and cabriolet, but at Hoffmann's request, a Speedster version was created as early as 1954!
For the 1960 model year, Porsche modernized its 356 with the appearance of the 356 B model, like the one shown here. Following in the footsteps of the legendary Speedster, the Roadster uses the same formula, with the advantages of the 1600 cm3 engine in its S configuration. D'Ieteren is the rarest of the various coachbuilders to have built the Roadster. Of the 2,900 356 Roadsters built, only 473 were produced by D'IETEREN frères in Belgium.
Our example left the D'Ieteren workshops on August 31, 1961 in this "Signal 6011" red configuration, burgundy interior and black hood.
This 356 was restored in Belgium by its former owner for daily use. After spending its life in Belgium, this 356 arrived in France in 2018 and has remained there ever since.
This is a rare example in D'Ieteren trim that will provide many years of driving pleasure for an enthusiast.
