1965 MATRA Djet 5vs - Lot 64
1965 MATRA Djet 5vs Series 20028 French registration Same family for 45 years Evocation of the spider prototype R5 Alpine engine. 40 000 / 45 000 The Djet is a two-seater sports car launched in 1962. Initially developed and produced in 198 units by French sports car manufacturer René Bonnet, 1,495 were built by Matra Sports between 1964 and 1968. From July 1966, the Matra Bonnet Djet 5 and Djet 5 S became the Matra-Sports Jet 5 and Jet 6, dropping the Bonnet name and the D from Djet following the liquidation of Automobiles Bonnet and the end of its agreements with Matra Sports. The "Matra Sports" logo appears on the hood and rear panel. 1967 saw the appearance of the Matra Sports Jet 6, the ultimate evolution of the model, which received the new 1255 cm³ engine from the R8 Gordini 1300 (105 bhp SAE). Unlike the Renault, however, it did without the new 5-speed gearbox. Despite this latest evolution, sales of the Matra Djet declined, and July 1968 marked the end of production. Innovative and exciting, the René Bonnet and Matra Djet are atypical sports cars that have become extremely rare in our automotive landscape. True collectors' items, they bear witness to a fantastic era and to the genius of their designers, and suffered only from their own qualities, one might say, namely artisanal manufacture and avant-garde but unreliable technical solutions. The Matra Djet is at the origin of Matra Sports and its success in motor racing: among others, Formula 1 World Champion in 1969 with its Matra MS80 driven by Jackie Stewart, and three-time winner of the 1972, 1973 and 1974 Le Mans 24 Hours with Henri Pescarolo, Graham Hill and Gérard Larrousse on a Matra Simca MS670... The car for sale is a 1965 Djet 5vs MB8S, and has been in the same family since 1978. It has an R5 ALPINE engine AND an R20 5-speed gearbox. It was restored 5 years ago, inspired by the spider prototype with a beautiful Bleu de France configuration and red interior. Restoration to be resumed and completed. 1965 MATRA Djet 5vs Series 20028 French registration Same family for 45 years Evocation of the spider prototype R5 Alpine engine. 40 000 / 45 000 The Djet is a two-seater sports car launched in 1962.
