NECKER (Jacques). Correspondence of 31 bills,... - Lot 36 - Osenat
NECKER (Jacques). Correspondence of 31 bills, that is to say 2 autographs signed and 29 autographs (among which several where he wrote the name Necker to designate his wife), addressed to François Coindet. 1781-1797 and s.d. The financier and comptroller general of finances speaks here about various subjects: a critical article about his Compte rendu au roi which he attributes to BEAUMARCHAIS (1781), a false letter from him to the king (1781), the arrival of Jakob Heinrich MEISTER (1784), the publication of his work De l'Administration de M. Necker by himself (1791), the financial constraints imposed by the revolutionary government (1792), the misfortunes of the REVOLUTION (1792), the military situation threatening Switzerland (probably 1798), the death of his wife (1794), his daughter Germaine de STAËL (in several undated letters), etc. A FRIEND OF JEAN-JACQUES ROUSSEAU AND INTIMATE OF THE NECKER FAMILY, THE GENEVA NATIVE FRANÇOIS COINDET (1734-1809). Settled in Paris, François Coindet had first been from 1754 to 1768 the agent of Jean-Jacques Rousseau who mentions him in his Confessions. They fell out but he kept several manuscripts of the philosopher. Also an employee of the bank Thellusson, Necker et Cie, in the 1760s, François Coindet gained the confidence of Jacques Necker and was for a time his private secretary, remaining thereafter in close relationship with him.
