CONSTANT (Benjamin). Adolphe, anecdote found in the papers of an unknown person. London, by H. Colburn. Paris, Treuttel and Würtz, 1816. In-12, vii-(one blank)-228 pp., bound in a paperback cover with printed label on the spine; volume placed in a burgundy morocco spine folder with multiple gilt fillets at the entrenerfs and on the boards, interior framing of the same filleted leather, burgundy moire lining, lined slipcase; title with foxed margins and trace of collar in the center with ink inscription restoring the word "par", an angular lack of paper, a detached bifeuillet, an old note in ink at the bottom of the last page, slightly rubbed slipcase (Creuzevault). FIRST FRENCH EDITION, ISSUED ONE WEEK AFTER THE ORIGINAL ENGLISH EDITION; a copy with the characteristics of the second state. Published in Paris around June 15, 1816, this edition was printed on the presses of the Parisian printer Georges-Adrien Crapelet (Courtney, no. 18b), in two states, and established according to the proofs of the original edition published just before in London around June 7. Both the London first edition and the two states of the Parisian edition are of great rarity.
