CALLOT (Jacques). Collection of 5 etched suites, bound in a volume in-12, granite calf, spine ribbed and decorated with gilt designs, marbled edges, metal clasps; binding a little worn with a dented spine, tear at the upper cover, dull corners, brown and red stains in the margins of some prints, trace of an ex-libris vignette on the upper flyleaf, old handwritten ex-libris mention formerly crossed out on the first print (17th century binding). IN TOTAL NEARLY SIXTY PRINTS, MOSTLY AT FULL MARGINS. - VITA ET HISTORIA BEATÆ MARIÆ VIRGINIS MATRIS DEI [...] ab Israele in lucem edita [...] Parisisiis. [Paris, Israël Henriet, 1633]. Suite of 14 prints including a title, at all margins, in proofs of the second state on three. Enriched here with another rare version of the Annunciation, engraved by the same artist, in fine proofs of the second state out of three. That is, ff. 1 to 15 of the present collection. - MARTIRYUM APPOSTOLORUM [sic]. Israel excud[it] [Paris, Israël Henriet, 1634]. Suite of 16 prints at all margins, that is to say a title and 15 plates numbered 1 to 14 with 2 different plates numbered 13. Rarely complete in beautiful proofs as here. That is, ff. 17 to 32 of the present collection. - LES PENITENTS ET PENITENTES. Israel ex[cudit] [Paris, Israël Henriet, 1632]. Suite of 5 prints by Jacques Callot remained unfinished, in proofs of the second state out of three, under a title engraved by Abraham Bosse. That is, ff. 33 to 38 of the present collection. - LA PETITE PASSION]. S.l., Herman Weyen excud[it], s.d. Suite of 12 prints by Herman Weyen after the suite of Jacques Callot hereafter, in all margins. That is, in the present collection, ff. 51 to 62. - LA PETITE PASSION]. [Paris], s.n., [1624]. Suite of 12 prints, in beautiful first state proofs, without margins ("to judge this series, it is necessary to see it only in the beautiful proofs of the first state containing all the finesses", Jules Lieure, nos. 537-548). Plates applied to the versos of ff. 50 to 61, i.e. placed opposite the prints of the Herman Weyen suite above. - NOUVEAU TESTAMENT fait par Iacques Callot qui na sceu finir le reste prevenu de la mort, l'annee 1635. Unfinished suite, comprising 10 broadsides by Jacques Callot, in fine first state proofs except for the first one, as always, under an engraved title by Abraham Bosse. Unknown to Hollstein, this print is a counterpart copy of an engraving by Jacques Callot. This is f. 74 of the present collection. - [Anonymous]. [Assumption].
