Gerrit RADEMAKER (1672-1711) attributed to - Lot 137
Gerrit RADEMAKER (1672-1711) attributed to Castle in ruins Pair of watercolors in grisaille 20 x 33 cm (8.5 x 11.5 in.) on view Note : Dutch painter, born in 1672 in Amsterdam, died in 1711, probably in the same city. It has been suggested that he was the elder brother of Abraham Rademaker (1675-1735). After having received from his father, an architect, the first elements of drawing and perspective, he became the pupil of A. Van Glivor. Later he visited Rome and acquired a taste for landscapes with ruins. On his return to Holland, he received many commissions, as he had a fertile imagination and was very easy to execute. His paintings (of history, portraits and architecture) can be found in all the galleries of the United Provinces. His pupils were Van Goor and Izaak Walraven. He is considered one of the best painters of the Dutch school.
