MAHOGANY BIDET RESTING ON FOUR LEGS two saber... - Lot 348 - Osenat
MAHOGANY BIDET RESTING ON FOUR LEGS two saber feet at the back and two cane feet at the front. The backrest is scrolled and offers a carved decoration of flowery vase on the entablature and flutes on the uprights. The seat is also richly carved on the front with a trophy composed of a quiver, a bow, a torch, an olive wreath and a ribbon. A torso ribbon is carved around the seat. A small trapdoor reveals a storage space at the foot of the back. The seat is closed by a board covered with leather. Numerous ink marks are visible under the seat and under the cover. There is also a trace of a label. The provenance of this bidet is multiple: probably a royal order or for the Garde Meuble, we find it a first time at the castle of Rambouillet in 1817, then at the Château de Fontainebleau until at least 1849.
