CLAUDE AMBROISE REGNIER, DUKE OF MASSA (1746-1814) Wax seal of Claude Ambroise Regnier, duke of Massa, round, in silver, engraved with the big arms of the 1st Duke of Massa, under duke's hat, surrounded by the Legion of Honor. 25 mm. Ht: 95 mm. A.B.E. First Empire period (circa 1809-1814). The coat of arms of Regnier, duke of Massa is the following: "Under the chief of the Dukes of the Empire: ermine, on a fess sable, charged with three alerions Or." History: This matrix can be dated after 1809 (date of ennoblement as a duke) and before 1814 (his death) Biography : Claude Ambroise Régnier (1746-1814) was a French politician who was President of the Corps Législatif, Garde des Sceaux, Minister of Police and President of the Conseil des Anciens (legislative chamber under the Directoire) and first Duke of Massa. Son of Ambroise de Régnier, receiver of the King's estates, and a law graduate, he participated in the 18 Brumaire. He was made Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor, Count of the Empire and became the first Duke of Massa in 1809.
