NORTHERN ARMY "Capture of the Batavian fleet on January 23, 1795 by the 1st squadron of the 8th Hussars." Large ink document summarizing this glorious action and adorned with a representation of Alexandre BRODIN, veteran of the 8th Hussars' campaigns during the Revolutionary Wars. 40 x 28 cm. Framed under glass. A.B.E. (Insolate). Middle of the 19th century. Related work : -A similar work made by Alexandre BRODIN's son, illustrating the n°123 of the magazine Traditions (June 1997), which will be attached to our work. History : On the night of January 23, 1795, during the wars of the French Revolution, the French cavalry of the 8th Hussar Regiment and the 3rd Battalion of Belgian riflemen captured the naval ships of the Republic of the United Provinces. This cavalry regiment attacked the Dutch fleet stuck in the Texel ice with the Belgian riflemen at night. The French army captured 5 ships of the line, 3 frigates and 6 corvettes, armed with 850 cannons, and several merchant ships and their crews.
