BOURGOGNE. - Manuscript entitled " Exact list of the persons of Dijon detained for suspicion in ...1793 ". 8 pp. 1/2 in an in-4 notebook; title page dusty. While in Dijon the robins and aristocrats, as well as their obliged, remained hostile to the Revolution, the department of the Côte-d'Or also experienced upheavals following the mass levies of men, the requisitions of grain, and the diffusion of federalist ideas. Several missions were sent there by the Convention, and, despite Saint-Just's accusations of softness, they made numerous arrests. The prisoners languished in prison until the second mission led by the Conventional André-Antoine Bernard, known as Bernard de Saintes, caused the execution of a dozen prisoners in February 1794. Fortunately, the 9th Thermidor allowed the liberation of the survivors. A NOMINATIVE LIST PRESERVING THE MEMORY OF 156 POLITICAL PRISONERS. That is to say: 56 "priests imprisoned in the seminary", with an indication of their place of origin, 73 "private individuals detained in the castle", classified by place of origin (Dijon, Beaune, Chambœuf, Soissons-sur-Nacey, etc.), sometimes with their state: "Barbuot [de] Palaiseau, ci-dev[an]t conseiller au Parlement... François Dechaux, doctor..., Louis-Nicolas Frantin, printer... François Le Clerc, organist...", several accompanied by a servant. Finally, 27 "women at the ci-dev[an]t [convent of the] Good Shepherd". Two comments concern a man "enlarged temporarily because of the death of his wife", and two women also "enlarged".
