Large watercolor drawing with the Arms of Paris, annotated lower left "Drawn by the care of François Blondel architect of the king". 64,5 x 45,5 cm. Under glass. Gilt frame. B.E. This drawing was used as an engraving for the frontispiece of the book of celebrations published on the occasion of the marriage of the dauphin Louis of France, father of Louis XVI, with the infanta of Spain Marie-Thérèse de Bourbon, on February 23, 1745. Biography : Jacques-François BLONDEL (1705-1774) Nephew of François Blondel, theorist of classicism, and imbued with a conception of beauty in itself, universal and rational, Jean-François Blondel opened a private school of architecture in 1734 and published works in which he condemned the fantasies and embellishments of the rocaille style in order to advocate the sobriety and elegance of pure lines and the harmony of proportions, thus contributing to the development of the Louis XVI style: De la distribution des maisons de plaisance et de la décoration en général (1737) and his Cours d'architecture civile, which appeared from 1771. He was the architect of Metz, where he designed the parliament, the archbishop's palace and the town hall. He also embellished Strasbourg and Cambrai, where he was the architect of the archiepiscopal palace.
