Louis XIV period, early 18th century H : 87 cm W : 123 cm D : 60,5 cm (restorations, some bronzes brought back) Provenance : - former collection of Maurice Filleul (1886-1970) at the Château de Chenevières in Montbouy (Loiret) - Albéric Parent's estate, then by descent to the present owners History of the family : Maurice FILLEUL, the great-uncle of the present owners, owned the Château de CHENEVIÈRES in the LOIRET which contained a very beautiful collection of antique furniture, including the chest of drawers, and a superb collection of paintings from the French school of the XVII and XVIII centuries. Indeed, the FILLEUL family descended from the painter GIRODET TRIOSON. The Filleul family "of very honorable bourgeoisie" gave at the end of the Ancien Régime, a long succession of servants of the royal family, as specified in the respectful family notes. Thus, Thomas Filleul (1703-1770) was an ordinary boy of the King's chamber. This position gave him the privileges of nobility and the right to bear the title of squire. By his function, he was in direct contact with Louis XV, slept near his room, and received his orders directly from the King. Thomas Filleul was married to Louise Madeleine Baugé (1707-1777), who was the chambermaid of Madame Victoire, daughter of Louis XV. One of their daughters Jeanne Louise, who died in infancy, was the goddaughter of King Louis XV and the Marquise de Pompadour. Several of their children also held positions in the King's household. Their daughter Julia married the Marquis de Marigny, brother of Madame de Pompadour. Their other daughter, Adélaîde married the Viscount of FLAHAUT. From this union was born Charles de FLAHAUT who was the squire of Queen Hortense. Note : A similar chest of drawers with four drawers in the front is in the collection of the Château de Fontainebleau. Consultant : Madame de la Chevardière
