1995 SPERONI RACER Type : Racer 3 points Length : 5,05 m Width : 2,10 m Weight : approx. 500 kg Number of seat(s) : 1 Engine : Alfa Romeo Twin Spark Type : 4 cylinders in line Displacement : 2,0 l. Power : approx. 175 hp. From the middle of the 1990's, the category soberly named "Racer" is the latest creation of the Italian Motonautical Federation to maintain a class allowing the ultimate three-point hulls to officially participate in a national championship. They are now powered by engines with a maximum displacement of 2 liters and must comply with new and stricter safety standards, including a cockpit protection above the pilot's head as on catamarans but without autonomous cell. This is the last 3-point racer designed and built by Speroni after thirty years of activity. It was delivered to the pilot Marco Battaglini, race number 60, and entered the Italian inter-regional championship in the Racer category. In 1998, it participated in the Trofeo Orlando Bodda in Manerba del Garda. In 1999, a new driver succeeded him and it was Vanni Bertoni who took the number 2. In 2000 it was the turn of the very fast Paolo Ferrari to take the wheel of the last Racer Speroni. He wears the race number 47 and is famous in the Italian championship of the category during the whole year 2000, a brilliant season that he finishes in second place. Jean Van Praet, very familiar with the achievements of the Speroni yard, both in terms of mechanical preparation and the construction of racing hulls, bought this car very quickly after the end of the 2000 season, still full of the glory of his recent sporting achievements.
