IMPERIAL MANUFACTURE OF SEVRES Porcelain plate, marli with green background of chrome decorated with stylized flowers in gold between two chevron braids, the center decorated with a polychrome bouquet of flowers surrounded by a frieze of arcatures in gold. Manufacture impériale de Sèvres, mark with the red stamp (the words "M(anufacture) Imp(éria)le" were voluntarily erased under the Restoration) and dated 1812. D. 23,7 cm. Provenance: Dessert service described as ''green background, rich gilding, bouquet of flowers'', offered in 1816 by Louis XVIII to Edward, Duke of Kent. This service, identical to the one delivered in 1810 to Josephine at the Elysée Palace, included 177 pieces. It entered the sales store on May 20, 1812, where it remained until Louis XVIII returned from exile in England, when 72 plates were added for delivery to the Duke on October 18, 1816. It then passed through the descendants of the Duke of Kent, his daughter Queen Victoria, then to his daughter Princess Beatrice, then to his son Alexander Mountbatten, 1st Marquess of Carisbrooke (1886-1960), and was sold by Christie's London, November 8, 1945, lot 8. 119 pieces of the service were sold by Christie's Monte Carlo, December 7, 1985, lot 32, 20 pieces by Sotheby's New-York, May 18, 1996, lot 240, 19 pieces in the Versace collection were sold by Sotheby's New-York, May 21, 2005, lot 394. Restoration to the edge of the heel on the bottom.
