"At a time when the popularity of single-cylinder trailers was growing, Yamaha presented its all-new XT 500 at the 1975 Tokyo Motor Show. The XT 500 uses the successful recipe of the big single-cylinder four-stroke engine in a modern and simple trail bike. The engine received a dry sump lubrication system for improved cooling, ACT timing and ignition. The model is imported in France from 1976, it is an adaptation of the model intended for the American market and it will sell 500 copies between March and July. Its simple but effective technical characteristics make it a formidable motorcycle on the desert tracks of the Dakar Rally. In 1979, the XT makes a double and in 1980 it will the first four places in the motorcycle ranking. It will make a few appearances in the cinema which will forge a little her reputation, notably in " Rien que pour vos yeux ", the 12th opus of the saga James Bond.
