BOUTET DIRECTOR ARTIST IN VERSAILLES. Large cassette necessary of pistols in varnished mahogany, sheathed inside with green felt and decorated with a fine light green braid framing the various parts. It contains: a long pair of pistols of officer known as "of combat". Hair-stripe barrels, with sides, slightly blundered at the mouths, engraved "Boutet à Versailles", decorated at the mouth, of a gold net with the notches of sights and, with the thunders, of two punches bars "Boutet" on gold band numbered "112". The lock is signed "Boutet à Versailles" and the hammers are engraved with round bodies. Cut-out steel fittings, polished and glazed. Finger rests. Counter plates decorated, on the front, with a bunch of leaves and, on the back, with two lions facing each other back to back. Adjustable trigger tails. Beautiful varnished walnut mounts. Short barrel crossbars with fine checkering (one is slightly missing). Oval knobs, trimmed with ebony, decorated with a radiating oval pattern in steel. All screws guilloche. Guns in good condition, numbered "1" and "2" on the breechshafts (re-colored). And its accessories well complete of origin: oblong powder flask covered with green morocco decorated with gold friezes; a screwdriver with three grips and a flanged handle; a tamping rod; a brass dosette rod; a mallet with turned wooden handle; a hammer with turned wooden handle; a metal oiler; a polished steel screw rod tip with its steel rod for cleaning and extracting the bullet; a polished steel bullet mold with one arm and a key to dismantle the head with the same number as the pistols, pin. The whole in good condition, period Consulate - Ier Empire (put back in color for the guns, some small discreet repairs to the felt sheathing and the braid) Length of the guns : 39 cm. Case : 31 x 51 x Ht. : 8 cm. Related work : A pair of short-barreled present pistols by Boutet offered by the First Consul to General Loison can be found in the collections of the Army Museum. N.B. : During the dismantling, to repair the sheathing, one can see in pencil, on the bottom of the box, inside, "Gal Murat", which could evoke the sponsor or the recipient of this beautiful and luxurious box of pistols.
