TOMB OF NAPOLEON IER AT SAINTE-HELENE Embroidery H : 12 cm - W : 17 cm with sight H : 24 cm - W : 29 cm with frame E.M. holes, stains Return of the Ashes period This embroidery of Napoleon's tomb between two weeping willows represents the first burial of the Emperor Napoleon I, in the Tomb Valley (formerly "Geranium Valley") in the Longwood district on the island of St. Helena. Due to a disagreement between the French who wanted to engrave "Napoleon I" and General Hudson Lowe who wanted to inscribe "General Bonaparte", the tombstone remained empty.
