JOSEPH WILLIAM RUBRIDGE (1802 - 1827), AFTER Napoleon... - Lot 187 - Osenat
JOSEPH WILLIAM RUBRIDGE (1802 - 1827), AFTER Napoleon I on his deathbed Painting on silk (silk paper ?) H : 11 cm - W : 16 cm with view H : 23 cm - W : 28 cm with frame E.M. tears, holes, stains. Return of the Ashes period Painting on silk of Napoleon, made after a portrait made by Joseph William Rubridge, portrait painter. Only a drawing of this portrait remains today because the original in color, a painting, was lost during the Second Empire or during the burning of the Tuileries during the Paris Commune. On the surviving Rubridge drawing, an error can be observed, which is also reproduced on the silk painting: Napoleon is depicted with sideburns in front of his ears, when he did not have them.
