SUPERB GOLD CIGARETTE CASE in gold, offered by the committee of the Steeple Chases Society of France to its President Prince Murat and given by Marshal Pétain at his reception as Honorary Member of the Society on December 15, 1919. Lid decorated with a rider motif with enamelled garter of the French Steeple Chases Society, with enamelled inscriptions " PRIX DE LA MARNE - 22 JUNE 1919 " and enamelled signatures of the allied leaders: -Albert I, King of the Belgians. -Marshal Joffre. -Marshal Pétain. -Marshal Foch. -the field marshal Douglas Haig, commander of the British forces in France from 1915. -General of the armies" John Pershing, commander of the American expeditionary force. -General Armando Diaz, commander of the Italian army in 1918. Reverse side of the case engraved "Souvenir offered by the committee of the French Steeple Chases Society to its President Prince Murat and given by Marshal Pétain at his reception as Honorary Member of the Society on December 15, 1919. Openwork holding clip with laurel frieze decoration. Push button cabochon sapphire. Punches APPAY PARIS and head of eagle in a hexagon. 11,5 x 8 x Ht 1 cm. Net weight: 203 g. In its case of the House Appay 24 rue de la Paix in black morocco with red morocco bands, stamped with the number M under a princely crown, signed in gold, and sheathed in natural skin. B.E. Circa 1919. Biography: Joachim Napoleon MURAT, 5th prince MURAT, (1856-1932). He became one of the leaders of the Bonapartist party after the death of the Imperial Prince. A racehorse breeder, he was president of the Société des Steeple-Chases de France in 1909, as well as a member of the Jockey Club and the Société d'Encouragement pour l'Amélioration des races de chevaux en France.
