JACQUES- LOUIS DAVID (1748-1825), AFTER "Portrait... - Lot 76 - Osenat
JACQUES- LOUIS DAVID (1748-1825), AFTER "Portrait of a young woman in a white dress under the Empire Oil on canvas re-coated Signed on the right " L.David ". H. 73 - L. 60 cm with view H. 91 - L. 79 cm with frame Wooden frame and gilded stucco decorated with palmettes and acanthus leaves in the spandrels. The representation of young women in white dresses is emblematic of the First Empire, breaking with the lace and hats of the portraits of the Ancien Régime. This change is to be credited to Juliette Récamier, whose antique furnishings and "Greek-style" tenements made the reputation of her salon at the end of the Directoire. The posture of our model recalls the portrait of the illustrious lady in 1805 by Baron Gérard.
