PAIR OF CANDLESTICKS IN GILDED BRONZE. The... - Lot 60 - Osenat
PAIR OF CANDLESTICKS IN GILDED BRONZE. The binnacles form a ball decorated with gadroons, the shaft with a cut end by claws, it rests on a round base chiseled with heart-shaped grapes Attributed to Ravrio Empire period. H: 26 cm Louis Stanislas Ravrio (&783-1846) joined Antoine-André Ravrio as a clerk and then as an associate from 1811. His relationship with his master, based on trust and affection, is attested to by notarized documents. In 1824 he bought his business. He won a silver medal at the 1819 Exhibition of Industrial Products and continued his activity until 1840. Thanks to the reports of the Expositions of the Products of Industry, it is possible to realize the evolution of his company. In 1819, Mr de Moleon in the Industrial Museum states: "Mr Lenoir-Ravrio enjoys a great reputation. Among the works he exhibited, which are very beautiful and very well finished, we noticed a superb bronze statue representing a faun leaning against a tree trunk. Plate 19 will show this monumental work, whose particular genre places it in a different class from the furniture bronzes for which this manufacturer has long been well known. We have chosen this statue in preference to the many other pieces in Mr. Ravrio's exhibition because it was appreciated in all respects by people who are very capable of judging this type of work. The central jury awarded Mr Ravrio a silver medal...". Ravrio delivered a series of two pairs of quite comparable pieces in 1809 for the living rooms of the first minister's apartment, No. 9 in the Ministers' Wing at the Palais de Fontainebleau.
