NAPOLEON I. Letter signed "Nap" to the Minister... - Lot 9 - Osenat
NAPOLEON I. Letter signed "Nap" to the Minister of War General Henry Clarke. Warsaw, January 6, 1807 [wrong date of "1806"]. 1 p. in-4. LETTER FROM WARSAW written during the Polish campaign, a few days after the battles of Golymin and Pultusk (December 26, 1806), and one month before that of Eylau (February 8, 1807). Napoleon I gave the bulk of his army a rest and organized the arrival of reinforcements before pursuing the Russians. It was during this stop of a few weeks in the Polish capital that he met Madame Walewska. "The 19th Regiment of Chasseurs should have arrived in Po[ts]dam. The 23rd will arrive there on the 10th. The 15th should have arrived in Hanover. Let me know the situation of the two regiments which are arriving in Po[ts]dam, in horses, in armament & harnessing, & take with General Bourcier [François-Antoine-Louis Bourcier] all the suitable measures so that the regiments are armed and equipped as soon as possible. There is too much time to lose for me to send you decisions. Take it upon yourself, & DO ALL THAT IS NECESSARY FOR THESE REGIMENS TO COME TO ME...". Provenance : Eugène Rossignol collection (dry stamp).
