1969 MERCEDES-BENZ - Lot 64
1969 MERCEDES-BENZ "Serial number 1110211112087796 Mechanical gearbox French title Introduced in 1961, the new generation of Mercedes-Benz coupes and cabriolets was designed by Paul Bracq. Directly derived from the W111 saloon, the coupé was first sold as a 220 SE version and was replaced by the 280 SE. Equipped with a 2.5L in-line six cylinder engine, this elegant coupe was in its day one of the most expensive cars in the world. The mechanical, aesthetic and manufacturing qualities of this great coupe, which was not subject to any criticism, ensured its continued existence long after the era of the Nationale 7. The example we offer for sale is a 280 SE coupé powered by a 2.5L six-cylinder engine whose power is transmitted to the ground via a mechanical gearbox. The dark green paintwork combined with the light green of the roof gives it a very nice look. The chromes are in quite good condition and the brown leather interior has a nice patina. The car is sound and ready to be driven on asphalt. Following a lot of recent work (invoice file available), the car came safely by road. Our road test confirms that the car is running well, the engine is running smoothly and the brakes are efficient. Following an ever-rising price, the W111 coupe is more and more sought after. That's why this 280 SE deserves attention from collectors and enthusiasts who, like many, will agree in defining this generation of Mercedes-Benz as one of the most elegant ever produced."
