RAVEL (Maurice). Autograph card signed "Maurice Ravel" addre - Lot 220
RAVEL (Maurice). Autograph card signed "Maurice Ravel" addressed to Lucien Garban. Château de La Bijeannette [in Saint-Sauveur in Eure-et-Loir], August 24, 1920. 2 pp. in-16, mourning border; autograph envelope signed and preserved. Letter written at the home of his close friend the industrialist Pierre Haour, who was ill (he would die in September 1920). They both belonged to the "Société des Apaches", a group gathering mainly artists, musicians and literary figures. "My dear friend, it's the job that wants it: in the evening, which I dedicate to correspondence, I have the pod... and the letters pile up. NO MATTER HOW MUCH I PUT INTO IT, IT DOESN'T GO FAST. I HAVE COMPLETED THE FIRST MOV[EMEN]T OF THE DUO FOR V[IOL]ON & V[IOLONCE]LLE, and dropped the others for the nameless lyrical machine. It is Misia - with an s [Misia Godebska, patron of the arts and a major figure in the literary, musical and artistic scene]. As for the work, I don't really know who to give it to. We return to Paris at the beginning of September, anxious about the trip, although our poor Peter has to be transported by ambulance. As I wrote to Mme Dreyfus [his wartime godmother Suzanne Dreyfus], I cannot make any plans for September: I will be as often in Auteuil as in St-Cloud, although friends - and relatives - should not be missing, as long as there will only ever be the metro to take, or the street to cross. How long will you stay? Are there always so many Poles in Coq [-sur-Mer] and its surroundings? To both of you, the affectionate memory of your Maurice Ravel "
