GAUTIER (Théophile). Autograph poem signed. 3 quatrains in 2 - Lot 138
GAUTIER (Théophile). Autograph poem signed. 3 quatrains in 2 versions, one very worked, the other cleaned up with new corrections, and poetic essays of a dozen passages carried around these two versions. The whole occupying one p. in-4 mounted on strong paper; foxing. EARLY VERSIONS WITH NUMEROUS REPENTANCES, VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE PRINTED VERSION. Then reworked, it would include 6 quatrains and would appear for the first time, under the title " Le soleil et la lune ", in the Revue de Paris of April 14, 1844. In 1845, it would be integrated under the title "La Lune" in the poetic suite España of the Complete Poetry (Paris, Charpentier), and finally, after the death of the poet, in the Charpentier edition established by Marcel Dreyfous in 1875-1876, it would finally receive the title of "La lune et le soleil". PIECE OF VERSE COMPOSED IN IMITATION OF THE SPANISH COPLAS: "the sun says to the moon: "what are you doing on the horizon? the honest woman with the brunette does not leave the house." the sun says to the moon: "where will you lie tonight? at the bottom of the lake or on the dune, I would like to know." "I don't know - I have a hundred retreats on the earth or in the heavens", answers the moon, "and you are a very curious star!" "
