BOURDELLE (Antoine). Autograph letter signed to Charles L'Ép - Lot 21
BOURDELLE (Antoine). Autograph letter signed to Charles L'Éplattenier. Paris, May 14, 1927. 2 pp. in-folio, underlining in red watercolor. "HAPPY TO HAVE SEEN YOUR WORK, your high relief for the entrance pediment of the Museum, your entrance atrium. It is fortunate that there are always artists not squeezed into one of the manifestations of art. ARCHITECTURE, SCULPTURE, PAINTING AND ALL THE APPLIED ARTS THAT ARISE FROM THEM are together, the descendants of the central constructing spirit, THE CHILDREN OF THE MASTER ART OF ALL, WHICH IS INTEGRAL DESIGN. Your works, and your students, do you great honor. It is beautiful that your family collaborates in your works, your life to all is decorated with flowers that last, and nothing can hurt the artisan home, even the so sudden life becomes beautiful as soon as the art is the main fire of a home... OUR BEST THOUGHTS TO THE MASTER ARTIST THAT YOU ARE. Best wishes to all of you from La Chaux-de-Fonds... " SWISS SCULPTOR, PAINTER, DECORATEUR AND ARCHITECT, CHARLES L'ÉPLATTENIER (1874-1946) gave from 1905 onwards at the city's Art School a Higher Course in Art and Decoration, where he counted the future Le Corbusier among his students, and helped promote the Art-Nouveau style and then evolved into the Art-Deco style. He created sculptures for the new building of the Museum of Fine Arts in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, inaugurated in 1926.
