BONAPARTE (Napoleon). Apostille signed "Bonaparte",... - Lot 15 - Osenat
BONAPARTE (Napoleon). Apostille signed "Bonaparte", addressed to the general administrator of the finances of Egypt Jean-Baptiste Poussielgue (Egypt, "1er nivôse" year VII - 21 December 1798, 1/2 p. in-8), on the verso of a draft letter from two different hands "for the commanders of the provinces" (Egypt, n.d., 1 p. in-8), a corner largely cut out. The draft letter reads as follows: "Mustapha Bey, the Emir Hadj, wanting... to withdraw the revenues of the villages located in your province and assigned to the EXPENSES OF THE EXPEDITION OF THE CARAVAN OF PELLERINS FROM THE MECQUE, dispatches Osman Serradj whom he charges with this care. The villages assigned to his place are in Calioubié, the village of Mechtehoui, Didjvé, Ejhoui and Kubra, Ejhour and Sougra, and Couni and Natrour. They must be exempted from all taxes and from all requisitions, since they must provide for an ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY EXPENSE, which must be made up for... The general in chief has charged me with giving orders in conformity with this request... I beg you... to give protection to the aforementioned Osman Sarradj and to help him in the collection of the funds for which he is responsible when he will need your support... " Napoleon Bonaparte then dictated the following order, "Referred to Cen Poussielgue to have the said note verified and give orders accordingly..."
